new to-do

Thursday, March 19, 2015
how are all of you? i'm doing alright. life has been incredibly busy-- but what's new there? i'm working on a lot of different stuff, but a few exciting things have happened. i'll cover them quick before i get into the beef of the post (inspo!).. first of all, i cut off all my hair! i know, right.

i kind of like it! i don't know why i decided to do it-- i just woke up one day and decided it was go-time. pretty much all of my dramatic hair changes go the same way: spend too much time obsessing over how good a certain look is, forget about it for a few months, then wake up one morning and book a same-day appointment to get it all lopped off.

second of all, i turned twenty! hurrah!

pictured is me with some of my new compadres c/o my loving pals. i got so many stuffed animals-- my friends know me too well! (also, i need to take better pictures of myself. same awkward laptop pose isn't working anymore.)

last of all, i've now got not one-- not two-- but three jobs. be careful what you wish for, huh? within the next few weeks the last one should be done (the store), but as it stands i've been hired on as a AM vegan baker at a cafe that runs out of an old victorian house in Capital Hill & a vegan chef in a new Cuban place. i'm pretty excited. i've got two more interviews for different jobs, and they all have me working very different hours, so i'll probably be very tired for a few weeks to give them all trial runs and decide what the best match is.

moving on..

i've been obsessed with a few images/ideas lately. let's call this my spring inspo.

i

diy butcher block countertops. they cost this person about $500 but i think i could nickel and dime it with some help from friends and Craigslist. can't wait to restore the new house.

ii

winona ryder in girl, interrupted. i've never seen the film for fear it fetishizes/glamourizes mental illness (a theme i stay far, far away from), but every example of the character design and styling is genuinely breathtaking.

iii

mermaid hair. this stuff was damn near impossible to track down when it first came out. but it's scented with coconut & orange blossom, it's vegan, and the packaging is perfect. urban outfitters supposedly sells it, but you can order it from their site with free shipping worldwide. it's a pretty penny so i haven't indulged, but it's tempting.

iv

slowcooker vegan baked beans. do you even know how much i love baked beans!? mashed potatoes, baked beans, and an excellent grilled veggie burger is my ultimate summertime comfort food. they take 18 hours from start to finish, which is kind of hard/weird to time right for serving, but mark my words.. i'll make them soon!!

v

diy statement pieces. love these things. i have a few i've picked up from thrift stores, but the idea of making my own with my own colour scheme is absolutely ideal. i'll be making some of these in the new house ASAP.

vi

floating wood shelf. you can buy it from uo for $70(!), or you can make your own for $5. i know what i'll be choosing.

vii

LOVE, love, love turning ladders into shelving. i'll be getting into that soon enough. i always see beat-up wooden ones i'd never want to climb on going for super cheap at thrift stores and get really bummed out that they've probably reached the end of their journey-- now here's a great way to rework them and use them some more!

viii

the nars duo in orgasm & laguna. neither of the shades work for me and it has lanolin, but i love just looking at it + nars packaging is flawless. :(

ix

my new fjÀllraven kanken backpack. i got one for my birthday and i love it so much! i didn't get the trend at first, but it's absolutely ridiculous how much you can stuff into it, walk around for a few hours, and still have no back pain. as someone with moderate to severe scoliosis, this is the first time in years i've even allowed myself to consider hiking. i'm in love!

x

this vegan caesar salad from ohsheglows (one of my forever favourites, even before i was vegan). it's cheap & easy if you have the basics laying around. i'd eat it every day!

you can always follow my pinterest here to get an idea of what i'm loving lately.

hope everything is good your way hope to update more often here soon.

xo, kiko
